Omaha

Omaha poker, which is also referred to as Omaha hold’em, is very similar to Texas hold’em, tough it has its own distinct qualities. In both games, each player receives four cards and must try to make the best hand by combining his or her hand with cards from the community cards. With Omana poker, however, the player must use exactly two of the cards from his or her hand and exactly three of the five cards in the community card pile in order to make the best hand possible.

No one is certain where Omaha poker originated, but the first known use of the game at a casino took place when it was played at the Las Vegas Golden Nugget Casino. At this time, however, the game was referred to as Nugget Hold’em. Today, the game is called Omaha and there are many different variations that are played throughout the United States.

Omaha Hi/High

One of the variations of Omaha Poker is called Omaha High. This term is used to refer to the original version of the game. Another version is called Omaha Hi-Lo, which is also sometimes referred to as Omaha/8 or Omaha eight-or-better. With Omaha Hi-Lo, players compete to get the best possible high hand as well as the lowest hand in order to win the game. In this case, the winnings are split between the player with the highest hand as well as the player with the lowest.

Omaha Hi Lo

When playing Omaha Hi-Lo, it is possible for the same player to have both the highest hand and the lowest hand. This is because the player may configure his or her cards in one way in order to achieve the highest hand and in another way in order to get the lowest hand. In order to qualify for having the lowest hand, however, the player must be able to play an 8-7-6-5-4 or lower. If nobody has a hand to qualify as the low hand, the person with the highest hand takes the entire pot.

Determining the best possible hand to play with Omaha Poker can be a bit of a challenge because players have a total nine different cards to choose from, yet they can only use two from their hands and three from the community pot. Therefore, determining which combination is the best while still following the proper rules can take some time to accomplish.

How to Play Omaha - Omaha Rules

There are also a few specific rules that need to be followed when playing Omaha poker. For example:

Having three or more cards on the table that are of the same suit makes it possible for the player to have a flush, but he or she must have two of that same suit in his or her hand in order to do so.

Having a pair on the board will not give the player a full house because every player must use three cards from the community board.

Having three of the same card on the table does not automatically mean the player will have a full house, as he or she must have exactly two cards in his or her hand that are the same in order to complete the full house.
By keeping these facts in mind and by remembering that exactly two cards must be played from your hand and exactly three must be played from the community board, you will certainly have a great time playing Omaha Poker.
